Above is a six week unit plan and corresponding calendar for a thematic unit on "taking risk". This teaching artifact demonstrates my ability to plan curriculum with purpose and coherence. I composed the summative assessment and informed the pacing of the unit accordingly and each day works towards a specific understanding.
To the left are two examples of student work in response to The Deep, a short story from the aforementioned unit on "taking risk". The illustration supplements student understanding of the relationship between Tom and his overprotective mother, who would not let her son partake in mundane activities due to his debilitating heart condition. The writing piece is a passage analysis. Both student-created artifacts demonstrate the breadth of knowledge I expect from students, as well as the multiple literacies that I ask students to engage in.

The teaching artifact on the right is a list of short response questions about Wife of Bath's Tale, which was originally presented to students by means of the digital projector in the front of the room. I was able to encourage independent learning by providing line numbers, which streamlined the process and allowed students to focus upon their reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.
